The Akita Inu breed, used as a guard dog in feudal Japan, is extremely strong and talented.


This breed, named after the Akita region of Japan, is known by the name of both Akita and Akita Inu. This breed, dating back to the 1600s, was used as a guard dog in Japan in palaces. Thanks to having a strong body, he can fulfill this task properly.

Akita Inu race was taken out of Japan for the first time with the effort of a US citizen woman. This breed, which became widespread all over the world in a short time after leaving Japan, started to be recognized all over the world since the 1920s. The Akita Inu dogs, which attract attention thanks to their being very loyal, are used as protection dogs all over the world as in Japan.

Apart from the duty of protection, the Akita Inu race, which can get along well with families, will surely do everything that falls on it.

Weight – Dimensions

Females can be between 54-64 cm in height and 34-50 kg in weight. In men, it has sizes that can reach up to 71 cm and 59 kilograms.


This breed lives on average 10-15 years.


The Akita Inu breed is known for being aggressive towards other dogs. Especially if it is of the same sex, it is unlikely to get along with other dogs. Therefore, it is not recommended if you plan to feed with a different dog.

Akita Inu dogs, who are very affectionate as characters, have to be accustomed to people and sociality from a young age. It can become aggressive if it is not properly socialized or mistreated. Likewise, it can be aggressive towards other pets in the home.

Akita Inu dogs will not be a suitable choice for those who will be feeding dogs for the first time. This race, whose instincts are very dominant, may cause problems because it has a different character. Training of Akita Inu dogs is also very laborious.


Akita Inu race will feel very happy as long as it spends time with people. A daily 20-minute walk is enough for these dogs, who always want to be with the owner.

This breed, which enjoys being outdoors, is not suitable for feeding in apartments.

Akita Inu dogs who have a bad reputation for molting shed a lot of hair.

Relationship with Children

If he gets used to childhood, he can get along very well with children. However, Akita Inu dogs can be dangerous for children if they are mistreated or not used properly.
